Moon Notes

Editor's Notepad

Welcome to the September Edition of Moon Notes. If you visited in August, you'll see a marked change. In that issue I promised an evolution, and that is what's happening already. As you see by the design here, we've gone thematic. The fall issues will all be colored with this brush. Keep coming by: in the coming months you'll see the seasons change.

I'd like to take a moment to thank Jean-Pierre Lavoie personally for allowing us to use his artwork for the cover. Normally he charges a usage fee, but in support of our non-profit literary efforts, he's granted the right to display his piece for free.

I've decided that each month's Moon Notes will have a "theme" to guide it. This month brings the rush of new things, the quickening of the trees in preparation for their long sleep, parents rejoicing the opening of school again.

I've always preferred autumn with its bright palette. To me, September is the most alive of all the months of the year. I guess it's true of anything that faces its mortality, even something as inanimate as the calendar. Autumn brings a hint of the end of the year. Quiet is coming. For today, then, the year dances.

Celebrate with us. Find a reason to laugh, wear your brightest colors, dance for no reason. Put the loudest piece of music you can find on the stereo and sing along. December is just around the corner; we'll have plenty of time for quiet contemplation then.

Enjoy! (to the issue index)
